A legal tussle is set to begin between Kokomaster, Dolapo Oyebanjo otherwise known as D’Banj and telecommunications giant, Etisalat.
ExpressNG exclusively gathered that the singer’s lawyers uncovered that the telecommuncation company has been using his content without duly remitting proceeds to him.
“D’Banj was very shocked to find out that Etisalat has been made a lot of money through ring back tunes for almost four years without making remittances to him,” our source divulge.
D’Banj raised alarm on twitter on Friday, May 27 in a post on twitter but stopped short of mentioning the name of the company involved.
“A certain telecom company in Nigeria has been milking off my sweat illegaly and I just caught them. This isn’t funny. I’ll take action soon.”
This is coming few days after D’Banj shared a message on Instagram that said, “Content is king.” With that assertion, the singer was laying emphasis on how music monetization through digital downloads and ring back tunes has become the new goldmine for artistes.
At the recently held Nigerian Entertainment Conference, MTN Nigeria said that they have paid monies worth billions of naira to artistes from their Ring Back Tunes and MTN Music Plus services.
Insiders confide in ExpressNG that if D’Banj and Etisalat do not reach an amicable settlement, the matter will go the courts which is something that the telecommunications company will want to avoid by all means.
